99. Invest in education to avoid mistakes

Let’s go over something that can transform your photography business – investing in education.

The Power of Education

I recently had a conversation with a friend who shared her journey of investing in her photography business right from the start. She wanted to take her business seriously and avoid the pitfalls that often come with a slow and self-guided approach. The difference? She now charges higher prices, makes fewer mistakes, and enjoys a smoother growth trajectory.

My experience, on the other hand, was a bit different. I was eager to invest but struggled to find the right educational resources. I made common mistakes: underpricing, trying to blend in with the crowd, and feeling invisible. What I needed was guidance, someone to say, “This is how you should do it, but there are different ways, and I’m here to help when you’re stuck.”

Learn the 7 pieces of a sustainable business

Why You Should Invest in Education

The key takeaway is that investing in education can make a substantial difference in your photography business. It offers:

  1. Structured Learning: Education provides a roadmap, helping you avoid aimless busyness.
  2. Commitment: When you invest, you have something to lose, which fosters commitment and dedication.
  3. Improved Clarity: You’ll know what you need to do to succeed.
  4. Personal Growth: Education isn’t just about technical skills; it’s about personal development.

Finding the Right Education

The world is full of educational resources, and many are even free. While these can be helpful, an investment adds a level of commitment that can be a game-changer.

What Motivates You

Not everyone is driven by numbers and revenue. For me, financial goals are motivating, providing a sense of security and freedom. But it might not be the same for you. Find your own motivation, whether it’s more free time, creative work, specific clients, recognition, or something entirely different. It’s important to have a goal that keeps you going, especially during slow seasons.

Ending note

In summary, investing in education is a pivotal step for your photography business. It provides structure, commitment, clarity, and personal growth. Find the right education that aligns with your goals and motivations, and you’ll be well on your way to building a thriving and sustainable photography business.

I look forward to seeing you in my workshop series and hope to continue this journey of growth and success with you. Don’t lose sight of why you do what you do, and never give up on your dreams.
