157. Creating Space for Plus-Size Couples in Wedding Photography with Christine Wright

The wedding industry has come a long way, but there’s still a glaring gap when it comes to inclusivity—especially for plus-size couples. Christine, a wedding and portrait photographer based in Houston, has made it her mission to change that. With over a decade of experience and her own journey as a plus-size bride, she’s shining a light on how the industry can do better.

Christine has been in the wedding industry for almost 10 years and photographing people for almost 12 years. A proud Canadian living in Houston, she loves bringing out the best in her clients and making them feel gorgeous and empowered.

Breaking the Mold: The Representation Gap

Christine is clear about the problem: plus-size couples are underrepresented in wedding photography, and when they are featured, it’s often in ways that don’t fully celebrate their beauty. Wedding marketing still leans heavily toward thin, traditionally “marketable” bodies, leaving out a huge portion of couples who deserve to feel seen. Platforms like Instagram and Pinterest mirror this bias, perpetuating a lack of diversity in imagery.

Starting Conversations That Matter

As a plus-size bride herself, Christine has firsthand experience navigating an industry that isn’t always inclusive. She’s passionate about starting conversations around these challenges—like the difficulties plus-size individuals face finding wedding attire or feeling confident in front of the camera. For her, breaking down unconscious bias and creating more inclusive options is a vital step forward.

Helping Couples Shine: Posing with Confidence

Christine shares that posing plus-size couples effectively isn’t about hiding their bodies—it’s about showcasing their natural beauty. Her approach begins with candid conversations about body perceptions and comfort levels before the shoot even begins. Then, she incorporates movement and creative angles to capture photos that feel authentic and celebratory. It’s about building trust, creating a relaxed environment, and making sure her clients feel seen.

Building Inclusive Portfolios

To Christine, true inclusivity goes beyond kind words—it’s about action. She encourages photographers and other wedding vendors to diversify their portfolios by featuring plus-size couples prominently in their work. Representation matters, and showing these images sends a powerful message to potential clients: you’re welcome here.

Empowering Photographers Through Education

Christine doesn’t just talk about change; she’s actively working toward it. She’s developed workshops to help photographers better serve plus-size clients. These workshops aren’t just about technical skills like posing—they’re about addressing and dismantling biases around body image. Christine believes that when photographers let go of preconceived notions, they can capture the true essence of every couple.

A Business and Ethical Opportunity

It’s not just about ethics—catering to plus-size clients is also a huge missed business opportunity. With 67% of American women wearing size 14 or higher, the wedding industry has an obligation to do better. Featuring and celebrating all body types isn’t just the right thing to do—it’s smart business.

Christine’s work is inspiring change in an industry that desperately needs it. She’s proving that when we make space for all couples to feel seen, valued, and celebrated, everyone benefits.
